A peaceful, faith-led rhythm to restore the body God entrusted to you
Introduction: God Cares About Your Body — Even at Your Desk
Long hours at the desk can leave your shoulders tight, your hips stiff, and your lower back compressed. But God designed your body with an incredible ability to recover when given gentle movement and intentional moments of care.
These five stretches use only simple, non-electronic tools and help you steward the temple God entrusted to you (1 Corinthians 6:19) — restoring peace, mobility, and alignment to your day.
1. Chest-Opening Doorway Stretch — “Open My Chest, Open My Heart”
Why It Helps
Releases tight chest muscles and reverses slouched posture from typing.
How to Do It
-
Stand in a doorway.
-
Place forearms at shoulder height on the frame.
-
Step one foot forward.
-
Lean gently until your chest stretches.
-
Hold 20–30 seconds.
Helpful Tools
• Yoga block or posture block
• Massage ball to release chest muscles beforehand
Faith Encouragement
“Lord, open my chest and my heart to Your peace.”
2. Seated Spinal Twist — “Let My Spine Find Rest”
Why It Helps
Releases lower-back tightness and decompresses the spine.
How to Do It
-
Sit tall with feet flat.
-
Place right hand on the back of the chair.
-
Twist gently from the ribs.
-
Hold 20–25 seconds.
-
Repeat on the other side.
Helpful Tools
• Small back roller
• Lumbar cushion afterward
Faith Encouragement
“Holy Spirit, unwind the tension in my body and soul.”
3. Hip-Flexor Stretch — “Step Into Freedom”
Why It Helps
Sitting shortens the hip flexors, affecting posture and back comfort.
How to Do It
-
Kneel with one foot forward.
-
Shift weight gently forward.
-
Keep ribs stacked over hips.
-
Hold 20–30 seconds each side.
Helpful Tools
• Kneeling pad
• Stretch strap
Faith Encouragement
“Lord, free what has grown tight in me.”
4. Wrist + Forearm Stretch — “Bless the Work of My Hands”
Why It Helps
Typing and mouse use create tension in the wrists and forearms.
How to Do It
-
Extend one arm forward, palm down.
-
Pull fingers back gently.
-
Hold 15–20 seconds.
-
Flip palm up and repeat.
Helpful Tools
• Hand massage ball
• Soft grip putty
Faith Encouragement
“Establish the work of my hands, Lord.” (Psalm 90:17)
5. Standing Forward Fold — “Be Still and Release”
Why It Helps
Gently stretches the entire backside of the body and calms the nervous system.
How to Do It (Safe Version)
-
Stand with feet hip-width apart.
-
Hinge forward from your hips — not your lower back.
-
Let your arms and head hang heavy.
-
Keep a generous knee bend if your hamstrings are tight to protect your lower back.
-
Hold 20–30 seconds.
Tools
• Leg wedge
• Foot roller beforehand
Faith Encouragement
“As I release this tension, Lord, I give You my burdens.”
